Feeny and Rendon cups

Congratulations to Oxton Conservatives who came through a very tough group including New Broom to qualify for the finals night of the Feeny cup.

Unfortunately it was not good news in the Rendon cup as Soapsuds missed out on points difference and Bebington Hockey came 3rd in a very tough group. This means that the cup, which has been won by Wirral teams for the last two years, will not be returning.

Well done to all four teams for qualifying and for representing Wirral.

NEW TEAMS AND PLAYERS WANTED

The Wirral Quiz League is always looking to recruit new players or teams and here's how you can get involved.

If you're an individual just send us an email, we will circulate your details and find you a team.

If you're looking to enter a new team, you'll need a licensed venue to host your matches and a squad of 5 or 6 players plus someone to ask the questions every week. Most pubs would be delighted to have 10 thirsty quizzers come in on a Monday or Tuesday evening so just ask your local venue if they can host you. And again, get in touch via email with questions.

If you run a licensed premises and are looking for new ways to create revenue then why not look at entering a team from your establishment into the quiz league. You'll be bringing 5 new people every other week to your venue who would not normally go there and a guaranteed income on home nights. Quizzing is a thirsty business and most players enjoy a few drinks when they play.

Any questions then please get in touch with either the secretary or the chairman whose details can be located under contacts.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Mimir finals and Feeney/Rendon Cups

The Wirral Quiz League would like to offer huge congratulations to both Karl Whelan and Jim Eccleson for reaching the grand final of the mimir competition.

The final will be played on May 16th at the Unison club in St Helens and it would be nice to see Wirral players turn out to support Karl and Jim.

You can watch the two semi-finals below:

The Feeney cup will see three representatives from Wirral, Oxton Cons, New Broom and Hoylake LTC. The Rendon cup will see both Bebington Hockey and Soapsuds competing.

Details of the matches for these competitions will be posted when we have them. The Rendon cup has been won by Wirral teams for the previous two seasons and hopefully this year's representatives will bring the trophy back to Wirral and all supporters are always welcomed.

Division Two promotion

An astonishing finish to the second division has seen Soapsuds sneak the final promotion spot.

They had to beat promotion rivals Wallaseyans and hope that Cheshire Cheese did them a favour against Roundheads.

Soapsuds won and Cheshire Cheese defeated Roundheads and so next season Soapsuds will be making their debut in division one.

Huge congratulations to the entire team whom I believe are the only side to have fielded an all female team on occasions this season.

Division One CHAMPIONS

After five years in a row of finishing second, Oxton Conservatives are no longer the bridesmaids. They sealed the 1st division title with a narrow 1 point win over We're fourth art thou David.

Many congratulations to them and commiserations to New Broom who have ran them so close all season but can take solace in the runner's up trophy and a place in the Feeny Cup.

Division Two CHAMPIONS

Huge congratulations to Bebington Hockey who have sealed the division two title and an immediate return to Wirral division one.

The second promotion spot goes down to the final day of the season. 1 point separates the top 3 and the top 2, Wallaseyans and Roundheads are level on points and only separated by a points difference of 3!

Relegation

Commiserations to both Taxes and The Clarence who have both been relegated to division 2 following this week's results.

Both are excellent teams and we expect they will return quickly to division 1 and wish them all the best for next season.

Presidents Shield

Congratulations to the Wirral 2nd division team for finishing 2nd (of 6) in the President's shield despite having recorded just one point from their first three matches.

The team have now qualified for the Presidential Challenge giving them an opportunity to retain the competition they won last year.

If you would like to be considered for the team in future seasons then please contact Steve Lomas of Aardvarks
