Martin Roberts- A Commemoration

To comply with Martin’s wishes, his funeral was private.

His family has arranged a get together on Friday 27th January at New Brighton Cricket Club where friends and family can meet to talk about Martin and their memories of him.

The room has been booked from 1.30 p.m. until 5 p.m. and quizzers, past and present, who knew Martin and would like to attend can drop in at any time and stay for however long suits them.

New Brighton Cricket Club is in Wallasey, postcode CH45 5DE, for anyone who hasn’t previously attended.

Congratulations to Wayne Shaw of Gladly Stoned who scored his second full house of the season on 31st October.

Sad News - Peter Maddocks

Peter Maddocks passed away on 25th October 2022. Peter was an ever present in the Bebington Hockey team since 2012 and in recent seasons played occasionally for Thingwall

His funeral will take place at 1.30pm on Thursday 17th November at Landican.

The League offers its condolences to Peter's friends and family.

Performances of the Week - Week 6

Week six of the season saw three full houses in Division I with Wayne Shaw and Clive Cooper of Gladly Stoned scoring 18[8] and 16[8] respectively. Neil Wright scored 21[8] for Soapsuds.

There were near misses in Division 2 for Peter Ferrett of Clarence Rovers with 20(7) and Mike McDonough of Nelson's Fifth Column with 30(7).

The Martin Prendergast Trophy for the best individual score in Division I went to Jim Eccleson
The Andrea Jones Trophy for the best individual score in Division 2 went to Steve Lomas who couldn’t attend on the night but received his trophy the next day

The Wirral MIMIR trophy was won by Jim Eccleson

The Pairs Competition was hotly contested, with Jim Eccleson (Oxton Conservatives) and Fiona McDougall (Shipwrecked) seeing off their opponents

 

Presentation Night - 25th September 2022 at 8pm

Wirral Quiz League’s Presentation Night will take place this year at Oxton Conservative Club on Sunday 25th September 2022 at 8pm.

In addition to the prize giving the evening will involve a meeting of the Wirral Quiz League and the Wirral Pairs Competition. Our friends from the Liverpool Quiz League are welcome to join us.

Queen's Funeral - 19th September

It was decided at the MQL Council Meeting this evening that out of respect for Her Majesty the Queen all MQL matches planned to take place on 19th September 2022, the day of her State Funeral, should be postponed.

For Wirral teams, the questions that have been sent out to you should be kept safe and used for the re-scheduled game, this game should be played on the return fixture on 5th/6th December 2022..

Fixtures Posted

The fixtures for September have been added to the fixtures page.  The full fixtures will be loaded after the Presentation Night where league handbooks will be distributed.

The meeting will be held at Oxton Conservative Club on Sunday 25th September 2022 at 8pm. The Wirral Pairs competition will also be held that night and a cordial invitation is extended to all Liverpool Quiz League members who are eligible to compete. Pairs will be selected randomly on the night.
